Everyday the board asks me to post so here it is. Why do I always get hit for bottom side cleanliness points on my 500 mile 63 Duntov car when it was delivered on an open transport? This car was neaver driven other than for PV prep. Is it better to look good than to be good?

Re: cleanliness points
Just before a show get underneath and clean everything from front to back, no fun, its amazing how dirty the undercarriage gets just driving a handful of miles, thought my 54 was spotless before a show and a jughead, oops judge noted how dirty it was underneath, yep it wasnt bad but needed some cleaning.- Top

Re: cleanliness points
In 2009, we drove our 1967 Duntov award car to San Jose, CA. This car received its Duntov in 1998 driven to St. Paul, MN. The white coupe has over 20,000 miles since restoration. We washed the car the night before The national and traveled another 200 miles before putting it in the convention hall. The deducts for cleanliness int-0, ext-1, chassis-2 and engine-2. Net raw total 95%, driving points 37%, Grand total-100%. Our actual mileage was 3882 miles.
In 1993, at Seven Springs, Zora told us, "these cars are made to be driven"
and that is what we do.

Re: cleanliness points
The judges in question should have pointed out what areas they were concerned with during the debrief. Maybe what they saw was 47 years of sitting vs. 500 miles of driving. Just a guess.- Top
