      Ron------

I've seen those plastic plugs for sale in several different places. As I recall, one of them is the Driveline. I'm not sure they are still advertised there, though.

One of the "controversies" I recall involves what the exact original color of the plugs were. Some say red, some say orange. I don't get involved in that detail.

              Brian,

Some will call it red but does have a little orange to it.

The catalog picture show it as red. If you want I can let you know exact color when I get it.

Do you know if red is correct?

Ron - The judges are looking for a PLUG, p/n 3828498, as installed in PRODUCTION in the Clutch Lever Shaft per the 67 Corvette AIM, UPC 7, SHEET C1; not a ZERK grease fitting, i.e. lubrication fitting. The 67 Corvette Owner's Manual indicates on P44 CLUTCH - Clutch Cross Shaft "At 36,000 miles or sooner, if necessary, remove plug, install lubrication fitting and lubricate with lubricant specified in NOTE 1, Page 46."

From what I have seen, I think judges are more interested in there being a plug vs the color of the plug. But because I had two Corvettes, a 66 and 67, that the previous owners had not read or paid attention to the Owner's Manual, the plugs were still in cross shafts. What I found was the plugs were an orange color on the part the fit into the hole of the clutch cross shaft and more yellowed orange on the portion exposed. I have also found these orange plugs in the cross shafts on other cars including Chevy IIs. The challenge was to find who made the orange plugs and I found that Niagara Plastics made them. There is another manufactures of plugs of the same size and that Caplug who a red plug and I have seen some red plugs sold by GM SERVICE in small plastic bags.

Anyway, based on my experience, the orange plug was used in PRODUCTION. Was there a second supplier? I don't know but it's possible but I wasn't able to confirm that the red plug was used originally in PRODUCTION.

                    Pete
