    convention or reginal meets ?s

just wondering if any member is allowed to bring their car to a NCRS meet? i am not looking to be judged and my car is way far from any awards. do you have to go through some kind of system to be invited? i would just love to bring my car to one of these meets and meet new people and try to get more insight on my car to make it correct. i am not looking to make it a show winner but just want it to be what it was.. an early 64 FI car. thank you all in advance for any advice. this forum is filled with great people.
    take care,
    matt

    Matt -

You'll be welcome at any NCRS meet, and you don't have to be invited; just register and show up! There's a calendar of all the NCRS Chapter, Regional, and National events in the "Driveline", and registration forms for each meet are also provided. Have you joined your local NCRS chapter?

Hi Matt...welcome to NCRS...you should register for the meet/regional or national...and even though you say you're not interested in having your car judged, there are ways to participate in NCRS...I have a couple of suggestions...first is go to this page https://www.ncrs.org/awards.html

scroll down and read about the Founders Award (although for the Founders Award your car has to be judged at a chapter level) and also the Sportsman Award programs...

if you're not interested in having your car judged these might be the right avenue for you to start to get involved....yet you might also want to consider joining a local chapter and actually getting your car judged at a chapter meet which would give you one of the requirements for the Founders Award...and learning about it...the experience can be very rewarding...

I'm sure others will pony up and make more suggestions...but here's a start....

NCRS is different from many car shows in that there are no single winners in a "class".

There are advanced awards you can pursue, but most of the judging at NCRS meets is "flight judging". Flight judging simply compares the judged Corvette to the best available information on how the car appeared when it was new. Awards consist of simply finding out how close the car comes to new, or the "flight" condition of the car. Top Flight is very close to original production condition; Second Flight or Third Flight proportionately less so. All cars meeting the judging point standards for that "condition" or Flight, receive awards.

If you can handle having ALL your Corvette's deficiencies discovered, then flight judging is one way to discover how it fails to match up to what it was when brand new. Since it will be nearly impossible to learn all that's "not new" in one judging, most of us reduce the frustration by purchasing the Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide for our model year, and proceed to pick as much of the "low hanging fruit" as possible before that first judging pass.

HOWEVER...Some advanced awards will be compromised by restoration activity. If the car is in very original condition, it's probably a good idea to have a preliminary evaluation done by the year class Team Leader. Bringing your car for judging at that first regional meet without doing ANYTHING beyond washing it is a good way to have this evaluation done.

Matt, Good Afternoon, I see that you live in Ohio. The Ontario Chapter is hosting a Regional meet on June 9-11. Many great cars and friends to meet at our event. For information please see www.ontarioncrs.org.

Matt, personally I think that the cars are just an excuse to meet new friends. If it were not for the cars, I would venture to guess that I would have met no more than two-three of the NCRS members. I am fortunate to count many hundreds of friends because of the cars.

By all means come to an event and enjoy yourself. If you are interested in the '64's, volunteer to be an observer judge. Good way to get your feet wet and meet new friends.

Look forward to meeting you somewhere in the future, and oh, by the way, did I say make new friends.

                Hi Matt,

I'm not sure where you are in Ohio but in the state we have 4 Chapters. You should be able to find at least one that is close to you. They are a great way to meet Corvette people and get deeper into the hobby. They're in Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton and the Cincinnati area.

The Heart of Ohio Chapter (Columbus) will have their Chapter Meet on May 15, 2011. https://www.ncrs.org/hoo/chapterjudgingmeet.html It would make a great check up for your car before the June Regional in Ontario.

Good luck and I hope you join a Chapter soon.

The short answer is yes. We do however depend on registration monies to put on the event, it also helps each year when we apply to national to hold/schedule the event. Your registration demonstrates that the membership supports the event.

Yes you can. The Florida Regional is open to the public, unless you want a car judged, want to do judging, or want to attend one of the seminars. Those activities are open only to registered meet attendees.

Thank You....i'm glad it will be an enclusive event and opposed to an exclusive event.....Last year my Bradenton friend ( who owns a 61 and an 03 ) didn't attend as he was told he would have to be a member to attend.....I will make a donation at the registration desk.....Thanks again for the answer....If he likes what he sees....perhaps i can talk him into a membership.
