1968 Survey - Need Owners to Check 2 items

'68 owners - please take a moment to respond to this thread to help with the new edition of the '68/'69 TJM. Please physically check before responding:

    1. Build Date of your '68 or its' vin #

    2. Does your '68 have a warning light at the top of the speedometer that comes on if the headlight switch is on but the doors are not open?

    3. Does your fan blower operate with the left thumb wheel in the OFF position?

    Thanks -
    Terry Buchanan

      Hi Terry !!!

Just a comment on your blower fan question. Does the answer need to include if the car has AC or not ???

        Tom,

No, I do not believe it makes a difference if the car has AC or not. We are looking at fan operation in the off position of the wheel control. Let me know if AC cars would make a difference.

            Terry,
            Just a comment from a 70-72 guy.
I found that the blower motor works in 70-72 cars but the damper is not open, thus there is no real air flow. May be the same in 68/69.

Re: 1968 Survey - Need Owners to Check 2 items

Terry this is my input for 68 original owner convertible without air conditioning.
                1. February 19, 1968
                2. No
                3. YES

It does not matter if the left thumbwheel is in the OFF position or any other position, the fan blower lever when moved from its off position will blow on positions one, two, and three. The fan blower runs whenever the switch is not in the off position, all the way to the left.

The owners manual for a 1968 Corvette having factory air conditioning is different than a 1970's owners manual. In the 70's manual if the fan motor selector is all the way to the left and the thumbwheel is moved to select MAX, NORMAL, or BI-LEVEL the fan motor will function. Other selections will not operate the fan motor until it moved from the off position. My 1970 original owner coupe with factory air operates this way.
The 68's owners manual for factory air conditioning does not mention this feature.

After reading the others responses I'm going to change my answer on question 3. Yes, the fan will run if left thumb wheel is set to off.

In my response I was getting thumb wheel and fan switch confused. You should never answer technical questions on New Years Eve.
