    Question on Engine Stamp and Casting

    I just picked up a 1960 vette that has what I think is a replacement motor (didn't buy it as a numbers matching) but I wanted to know what car this engine came from - Stamp is FO518CQ Casting Number 3896944 Date Code 1236

          Hi

          F0518CQ = Flint May 18th Base 283 230HP. Is there a serial #?. Also the date should start with a letter. May be out of a passenger car as the block number is not correct.

              seems like it was a late 65-67 283:

              1965-6738969442831951952replaced by 307 in 68
