    Re: 1956 Ignition Shielding

    Ed, years ago when I got the parts pictured earlier in this post, I was not able to get any brackets. The parts I pictured came off a 1956 that was wrecked and these parts were laying loose inside the car. I still wish someone could chime in with pictures as I still don't know what I have. The two horizontal pieces of shielding I have are different which makes me think that one is right and the other is left but I am not absolutely sure of that. Due to my wife's declining health, I will not be able to make the meet at Kissimmee this year. I wish someone could take pictures of what is on their '56. As I have said before, a picture is worth a thousand words. Thanks! Brooks Glover (2141)

      Brooks;

      I'll be at Kissimmee, and I will take lots of pictures for you. Check your shielding against the info I emailed to you this morning. A quick set of measurements should confirm if you have the right parts.

      Do you also have the vertical shields and the top shield? My email this am discussed them as well.

      Based on what I can see in your pictures, I think you have the correct parts. I can come over when it is convenient for you and check them closer.

        Ed, I will be in touch by phone to see when it might be convenient to get together where you can see what I have or have not. Thanks!

          My survivor car is SN-2517 May 18, 1956 vintage. All shielding is original.
          See you there.

            Wonderful, just what I wanted to see. If I am not mistaken, you car has a 2nd design 56 engine. Please answer this one question for me.

            Is your distributor a 1110872 or a 1110879?

            Looking forward to seeing the car, and chatting with you in Kissimmee.

              Ken, Thank you for having your 1956 at the Florida event. I have 2765 and 3218. I am sure the 1956/7 team will enjoy looking at your Corvette.
              CU there.

                I cannot tell from the pictures, but I will be bringing a complete survivor
                56 to The Florida Regional this month for judging. This car is a one family car with very low miles. The car is Red, Red, and Red.
                I hope this will be of help.
                Looking forward to seeing everyone.
                Thanks.

                Ken,
                In addition to what I assUme is Flight Judging (since you said you are bringing your 1956 for judging), are you also requesting a "Bowtie sign off" from the judging team and Team Leader?

                Has your 1956 been judged a Survivor at Bloomington Gold?

                    Re: 1956 Ignition Shielding

                    Jay and others, thank you for your response to my post about '56 shielding. Yesterday I had the pleasure of looking at a really nice '57 that a friend of mine now owns. He allowed me to look at the radio shielding. The driver's side horizontal piece matched what I have perfectly. On the passenger side, the only difference I could see was that my shield had a strengthening bar inside the center of the V bend which the shield on the '57 did not have. The only way I see to detect this would be by feel if the shield is installed on the car. My car is a late '56. I wonder if late '56's have the same shielding as the early '57's? At this point I think that they probably do. At this point I have not read anything to the contrary. I would love to see the '56 owned by Ken Joseph but I won't be able to attend the Kissimmee meet later this month. Hopefully some pictures will taken of this unique vehicle. In the meantime I thank all who have replied to this post. Brooks Glover (2141)

                      Terry;
                      No, My 56 was not judged at Bloomington yet. I plan on taking it there
                      this summer. I just refer to it as "Survivor" as I have another restored
                      Top Flight 56 that I have had since 1967. (I hope that Bloomington Dave
                      doesn't Mind my hijacking his term.)

                      Ed;
                      I will check that distributor number and post soon.

                      See Ya.

                        If we can work out the logistics in Florida I would like to use your car for the Advanced Judging School on the day it is not being judged. I have to get the Team Leader's permission, and we have to see what the parking situation is. Moving it to the hoist may be another issue.

                          I would be good with the Judging School deal. I know from experience how nice it is to look at an original car when you are trying to find out which way the bolts go in on a 50 year old car. Call me when you know
                          what is envolved. 330-265-8324 cell.

                            Ken I won't be able to get all those ducks in a row until we all get to Kissimmee. I could find out what day you will be judged, but the parking situat5ion will not be clear until the cars are actually in place.

                            I'll put your number in my cell, and we will talk down there. I think I am getting in on Wednesday, or maybe Tuesday. I am traveling with some other people who are going to visit the mouse in the days before the meet.

                              I just took the shield off and looked at the distrubutor number. It is
                              1110879. It is a 2X4 car 225 H.P.
                              Hope this helps.

                                62's, because the exhaust manifolds could be 2 1/2" instead of 2", had the cutout for the vertical part of the manifold enlarged, and a metal reinforcement welded to the inside of the shield. It was bent slightly, and it's radius matched the inside radius of the "v" bend.
