I recently purchased Corvette number 38, the above, do not know a lot about 67's was hoping for some general help, I know it has all of the correct Numbers etc, I cannot seem to locate the date codes on the hard top, if they are there, they are very small, also not sure about the tinted windshield, mine states Soft Ray Tinted glass with no apparent date code, rest of glass is good, outside mirror states 11-DMI-2 is this correct?
It has the wrong upper and lower rad hoses, starter date's 1st number is a 5, does that mean it's a 65 starter?, The dist. cap is a re pop but delco, the coil appears to be incorrect, should all of these misc. items be corrected before I go to judging, looking for a Bowtie or survivor, it's had 1 re paint, very nice, door panels 100% orig, carpet sure looks orig, seat's have to
been re covered many years ago, they look to good. any help would be great
The first thing to do is to get a set of NCRS judging manuals. The general judging manal, and the specific one for the '67. They are available at the NCRS store on the website. Then follow it religiously, yes all the non-confroming parts need to be changed to original or similar before judging. And don't underestimate how many that is. The '67 manual is very specific about all of them and how they should look and be attached. There is no detail too small to be judged as incorrect. When buying parts, make sure they are correct for '67, from date codes to part numbers it is all important. Long Island Corvette is a great source for correct parts for '67s. If you want to go for Bowtie or survivor type awards, the rules for that are in the manuals and you should make sure any original parts are truly original and be able to judge how much of your car is original. Good luck, it is a long road, but lots of fun too.
Please have your friend e-mail me at smiller245@comcast.net, we can compare notes, I am finding alot of different things on my car due to it's early build and just days after the return of the strike
Great find Steve. I feel the same way as you with my new 62, #29. You will find a lot of good folks on this site ready to help or advise. Don't hesitate to ask questions. Purchase an Assembly Manual & Judging Guide.
Thanks John, That was the 1st thing I did, however with it being built in early Nov, it has a lot of 66 parts on it that the Judging manual seems not to my car, but to 67's built in 67 not 66, espicially after the strike, by the way my uncle had a 61 fulie for over 45 yrs, just sold it a couple of years ago, blk/blk/wht top and blk hard top, he was with the person that ordered the car new in 61 and had every piece of paper work, so they are still out there
Steve
Now I would take the opposite approach. If I had any idea that it was a Bow-tie candidate, I would certainly have it judged first and see. If you have it judged first, you will learn what is and isn't wrong or right. Then you will have more direction as to your approach to preservation or restoration. This is what the club used to be about, before big money got involved. Learning about the cars and making them better, with the goal of top flight.
Thanks Wayne, I am going to attend the NCRS meet in Franklin In in April, she's no bow tie, but a real close survivor except for 1 re paint, I was going to attend to see what other cars look like and make note how to address mine
