Re: orange overspray on dipstick tube?
Look at your AIM, tube was installed at St Louis=no paint on tube as tube was not on engine when the engine was painted.Bill Clupper #618- Top

BB is very easy to pull dipstick off of and remove paint. Should give you no problem at all.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: orange overspray on dipstick tube?
Bill, I just stumbled into something. I looked in the judging manual. It says that the dipstick tube is to be painted semi gloss black. Is that the tube, and the portion that is a welded to the tube that attaches the tube to the block. My car has been topflighted many times. I've never lost a point because my dipstick tube wasn't painted??- Top

Re: orange overspray on dipstick tube?
Which version of the JG are you using? I worked with the '66 team when the latest version was introduced, and no mention of paint on the tube appears. I've owned a couple of '67 cars that were essentially unmodified, and neither had painted dipstick tubes, This is on unmodified cars from about 20 years ago. I have no reason to believe that ANY GM dipstick outer tube in the 63-72 era was ever painted. As to the 67 judging guide, I only have the second edition, but it correctly calls out bare metal on the oil dipstick tube.Bill Clupper #618- Top

I'm with John, the '66 says unpainted, and the '68 manual says unpainted the '67 manual is???? I expect it will get corrected at some time...Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: orange overspray on dipstick tube?
Read John Hinckley's message from 1/6. The 4th edition '67 JG is in error on the tube it would appear. Either that or the '63-66 and 68-72 guides are ALL in error which I doubt.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: orange overspray on dipstick tube?
John and I discussed this yesterday. The 4th editions do have errors and revisions that do not seem to progress along a linear time line.
John's is dated 2006 by copyright and says black.
Mine is dated 1999 by copyright and says natural steel on both the white pg 112 and the revised yellow pg 112 bound into the book. Out of respect for the copyright I cannot scan and post but will show you in Florida. I received my book directly from Eric M when I became NTL, post 2006. I thought that would have been the latest printing of the 4th edition.
The short answer is natural unpained...- Top

Nick, Good to hear from you. Be sure to stop over and say hello in Florida. I don't know if you remember , but you helped me with quite a few of my questions a couple of years ago. See you in Florida. Don- Top
