Re: 62 turn signal flasher
Looking in 5th edition of JM for 61-62. Where is the info on the turn signal flasher for a 62. Now I read the info supplied above but can't find anything in the manual.
Is this part judged by the interior judge? I my midyear judging sheets its Interior #14. Un der Dash Area.
But where is it in the 62 info. Thanks, JD- Top

Re: 62 turn signal flasher
The judging 'manual' died when Roy Sinor took office. The books are called 'Guides' now, so the abbreviation is JG...
The '61-62 book is out of step with its 'brother' ('58-60) that shares the same score sheet! The earlier book defines the TS flasher (only cites ONE of the different PN's listed in the AIM books) in Interior, Section 10, Pedals & Area Under Instrument Panel as part of the descriptive text on the Fuse Block & Wiring.
The '61-62 book sits silent on this component in its equivalent descriptive text. So, judges apparently go by their personal knowledge.- Top

Re: 62 turn signal flasher
HI Jack, Old JD is not really into C1's except I am supposed to know all the fine details about them and that's tough as I barely know 63's.
So your good answer then is the Flasher info is MIA in nice manual.
No wonder I couldn't find it and now I know why the MD from MD asked the question.
Thanks for the reply. JD- Top

Re: 62 turn signal flasher
Yeah, but I've had two NOS GM 3758682 flashers that were DIFFERENT, Peter...
One was in a black & yellow service box (end flap dated 1961) and it was a Signal Stat ZN332. The other was in a blue & white service box (end flap dated 1963) and it was a Signal Stat 143. Methinks the manufacturer (Signal Stat) dropped the ZN332 for their revised 'equivalent' 143 in the '62-63 era and GM approved the substitution...- Top

Re: 62 turn signal flasher
When I was trying to solve the mystery of which flasher was correct for my '62. I had in black and yellow boxes #3758682 Signal Stat ZN332 and #3758683 Signal Stat 143. My car is an April built car so I went with the Signal Stat 143 but with correct 1034 bulbs it flashed just a little bit fast, went to the ZN332 and it was just right.- Top

Re: 62 turn signal flasher
ZN332 & 143 were both designed to service 3-lamp, #1034, circuits. It's the 145 flasher that followed the 143 which was aimed at 3-lamp, #1157, circuits.
When assessing blink rate, remember there WERE unit to unit tolerance differences. Also, as Regan said, "trust but VERIFY"...
I've seen WAY too many cars that owners SWORE had correct/original lamps installed, only to find 1157, 2257, Etc. lamps in those sockets when the lamp lens was removed and the bulb pulled! That's because both NOS late old stock as well as licensed reproduction lamp assy's come with bulbs already installed. Buyers 'trust' they're getting orignal #1034 lamps when they purchase for a '63 and earlier application, but actually aren't...- Top

Re: 62 turn signal flasher
John - If Mikey started it, the answer is easy. Roll down the driver's window, put your left arm out and signal and hope to "heck" the guy behind you notices.
On second thought, put the pedal to the metal and use another universal signal because he's following to closely.. Pete
