Re: new member with a question
engine code should be CGY should have m22 rock crusher transmission and alum radiator. not one of 8 without these things, or at least not original ZR1 package which is a LT-1 with the fore mentioned stuff required. Get proof before paying big $$$....good luckMichael

Re: new member with a question
A correct 71 ZR1 should also have transistor ignition and a unique aluminum radiator with metal shroud. Plus special springs, shocks, etc.
Note the car should not have power windows, rear defrost, air conditioning, power steering, wheel covers, alarm, or either AM FM radio. None of these items were available in ZR1.
( Info from the Corvette Black Book )
Wheel covers and alarm may be listed incorrectly in the blackbook as another member here has documented ZR1's with these features.Tom Hendricks

Re: new member with a question
Hi Charlie. Welcome to NCRS and the Technical Discussion Board.
Since you're a new member, we can better understand your question if you tell us a little about your experience with Corvettes. For example is this your first Corvette, or your 20th? From talking to long time members here, we might use lingo a first-time Corvette owner/new member may not understand. Don't be shy if you need additional explanation; all of us started in this hobby as novices.- Top

Re: new member with a question
UA6 alarm and PO2 wheel covers were not restricted with ZR1. I know of some with each. I assUme by air you (or really Mike Anotnik) mean C60 Air Conditioning (which no ZR1 had), not to be confused with AIR (Air Injection Reactor) -- which ALL ZR1s had.Terry- Top

Re: new member with a question
Yeah, Charlie, TM was throwing a mild sarcasm dart at those who would build expensive collector cars out of nothing for personal gain.
Lurking just behind TM's humor was a subtle warning to be very sure when confirming the seller's claims in such cases; i.e. at least five are "fakes", but which five are they?- Top

Re: new member with a question
Hi Tom,
I'm curious about your note of the aluminium radiator having a metal shroud? I've been thinking the ZR-1 radiator didn't have a shroud.
This is a picture of the radiator area on the VERY low mileage ZR-1 presented at the 2010 Convention. Sorry it's a little blurry, I was pretty excited and couldn't stand still!
Did some ZR-1 cars have radiator shrouds?
ZR-1 talk certainly gets peoples attention.

Re: new member with a question
Tom appears to be right on...I just checked Dobbins book which has some ZR1 underhood pictures; ZR1 has short cylindrical metal fan shroud. Edit: However...Dobbins does say 72 ZR1 did not use the fan shroud. If your photo was of a 72, then it was correct.- Top
