Have to disagree, for a good part of 64 the shocks were also black!

I am sure you are correct. I meant to say 63 was the last year that only black was used. We know that most changes were phased in.

        Jon,

Instead of driving yourself crazy trying to find a date coded part that's probably wore out why not consider installing power steering if you drive the car.

It's a nice project and not difficult to do at home in the garage. Combine this with steering box service, lube and adjustment and you will see a big difference in driving enjoyment.

I installed the P/S on my 67 and it's made me so lazy when driving around corners I don't feel like downshifting anymore..

          Jon,

          To answer your question

The steering shock was gray. Replacements were black until the 70's and they were gray again!

63 250-300HP without PS had a steering shock!

63 340-360HP did not have a steering shock! (This is for John D) Unless of course you have a 300HP pan and your vehicle is called the REPOMOBILE!

            Timothy,

I do drive the car and I also enjoy the non power steering (and brakes). Makes me think about driving! I like that.

There are no problems with the steering as is, I just wanted to bring the car back to the original configuration.

            Regards,

            Jon

              Joe,

Thanks, I will make sure the one I finally install is grey!

              Regards,

              Jon

Let's see? Replacement dampner $100. Power steering setup $1000. Why bother? Since he's happy with what he's got. I prefer mine manual anyhow.

                  Michael,

Anybody that pays $1,000 for a power steering set up is being steered in the wrong direction..

True, if you have access to a good batch of used parts. Many don't have the time or desire to hunt them down and restore them.

The following is CCentrals conversion w/pump. When all is said and done. If you pay someone to install, it will be right at or just over the $1000 mark.
