yes...make sure its a flint block. i had the perfect date code 870 block for my '64. unfortunately it cost me a thousand bucks to realize it was a tonawanda block. meaning i bought it without having the full education on the differences on these blocks.

    take care,
    matt

Got it Matt, they're both Flint blocks.

      Thanks, Ray

Thanks Steven, I did contact Syd and he did not have these VIN's currently in his '63 registry. He's hoping that I can find them for him as well.

Ray I sold a 62 fuel injection engine VIN#9630 long block, but no heads or intake last summer for $500 to a 62 owner friend that has a fuel car, but with a 283 engine. His vin is #4959.He told me if it was "THE ORIGINAL" he would have paid #2500 for it and hope it was able to be rebuilt. Toaday he feels if he has an original 62 fuel injection engine in the car, it is better than a re-stamp. I agree with him.

I advertised the engine in the DRIVELINE and HEMMINGS with no inquiry. I even used a cop frind to run the DMV and see if it appeared, which it did not. If it came up, I would have paid my cop buddy to notify the owner we had his original engine.

I am sure the reason these engines survived, is they came out of a wreck.......or STOLEN., So be careful.

Thanks for your response Jim, that is some great information. I just recently acquired these two engines so I haven't had a chance to list then in The Driveline or Hemmings. It would be best to reunite the block with the car and I like your idea about having your cop buddy do a VIN search but unfortunately for me, whenever I see a police officer he is usually busting down my door to serve a warrant. ..... I'm just kidding about that last thing. I'll just keep listing and see who's out there.

              Thanks for your help,
              Ray (rayvaflav on the CF)

Hey Paul, I have the original engine for my '66 running in the car now but I bought a '65 passenger car 327 to build as a 350hp (not messing with the stamp pad on this one, it's not right at all and I want everyone to know it !) and put it into my '66 and abuse it without the threat of blowing a numbers matching engine.

Re: 1963 Corvette 327 RE And RF Engines, Need Value

                    Hello Ray,

I spent almost 5 years looking for a "more correct" block/motor for my early build 63, VIN#027XX.

My car is an "RD" 300hp, but I found a rebuilt complete all matching casting code (block, heads, intake, carb, alternator and manifolds) "RE" for $3,500 about a year or so ago. The beauty of it was that the VIN on the block was 20 cars away from mine.

If your engines were just Flint motors with matched '461 heads and 300 hp intakes I would say they would be worth $1,500+ ea complete. Assuming that they are rebuildable...

If you find the person with the exact VIN they can be worth much more, but finding that person and having them be in a position to purchase them might be another story. As previously posted, the original block in a '63 will add at least $10k, likely much more.

                    I hope that helps.

                    Jason

Thanks for some great information Jason. I now have these blocks for sale (the 360 FI RF is esentially a short block with later heads and an aftermarket carb intake and the 340hp RE is a long block with the correct aluminum intake) at a considearbly lower price than the values stated. I am not in the engine business but now that a Suburban ran into the front of my '66 coupe and I don't trust my own fibrerglass repair skills ....

                      Thanks, Ray
