Here are a pair of 1972 front shocks dated 302 of 71.

Ridge is showing you a rear shock. It's too bad there's not a better top view to see the detail of the upper shell.

I found the pics I had...these are of a 67 front shock showing general configuration. Close ups show some of the stamping detail around the bottom end. Note distinctive knurled appearance of weld at bottom of tube. Paint is not original, but looks very close to original appearance (my opinion).

In the second pic, you may be able to make out (Line 1) PLIACELL trademark, (Line 2) part number, (Line 3) DELCO PRODUCTS.

On the third pic, you may be able make out (Line 1) (something) 67, then (Line 2) (something) DAYTON OHIO. "Eagle Eyes" Donnally can probably help us old guys out with that (something) part.

You mean 'Four Eyes Donnally' don't ya, Chuck?

Looks like Pliacell on the top line then the part number and a Julian date of 78-67 on the second and finally Delco Products Dayton Ohio USA on the third line.

Now I've got to take a nap and rest my eyes so I can pass my next FAA physical. Only 20 more to go and only 10 EKGs.

Dang, you do have good eyes, guy...I thought that date was 73, and I had the advantage of blowing it up to screen size, not a thumb nail. You go, Dude.

Where on the front shocks would you find the braodcast code sticker? I did not see it on the photo of the shocks that Paul posted.

                Bob,

Hopefully someone will share a PIC of an original with the broadcast decal still on it. I would say they are hand placed and there is no absolute with regard to placement. I've seen them typically in the middle of the body, sometimes straight, sometimes crooked.

Of course, when I restore a car, I place them so it is easy for some nosey meddling chassis judge like Patrick, Paul or you to see them easily even with you guy's poor eyesight.

                  Thanks Mark

I was curious as I have seen them all over the shock. I appreciate your response, although I don't consider myself a nosey judge, just a bit inquisitive. By the way, my new glasses make it much easier for me to see all that stuff on the chassis.

Plus, you're skinny and that makes you that much more dangerous.

So, uh, isn't that the glue trace of the sticker on the right hand shock, or is that where Paul wrapped some tape around it and left it until it dried out?

This would be the correct answer.

That is the area where the label was in the middle and at a slight angle from horizontal. As Mark pointed out they were hand installed so there install was never consistent.

One thing that I have noticed over the years the shocks looked to have been batch assembled. There seemed to be a a few days they were made so all the dates were very close then a month or few weeks would go by and then a new group. I do not know the production rate on the shocks but they seem to make a large amount then wait a period of time. Then would assemble more as the inventory fell at St. Louis.

Sorry, or I would have gotten this posted up earlier. I had a long list of honey-do's to complete today, ...or it would have been a rough weekend.

These 1967's are in 100% virgin condition. The little bit of dark splotching appears to be a little bit of "blackout " fallout. Broadcast coade stickers are 100% original.

Good carburetion is fuelish hot air . . .
