    Shifter mount

In thinking about taking the bolts for the shifter mount from my 72 driver to replace the non origiinal ones in my 70 LT-1, I noticed in the AIM (7 B2) that bolt # 3 has different part numbers.
    70 - 9419402 72- 3975550.
Then I noticed that the trans lever asm (stick) was different as well as the support. Are these superceded numbers or are these parts different between 70 and 72?

The screws in question are self-tapping screws. The GM #3975550 was never available in SERVICE and I have no information on it. The 9419402 was once available in SERVICE and is a 5/16-18 X 3/4" self-tapping screw with a phosphate finish. I think the earlier screw was the same size but I think it had a zinc finish. By the way, these screws strip out VERY easily since they are self-tapping into relatively thin steel. Torque them carefully.

The shifter support bracket had 3 "iterations" over the 1968-79 Period. Just how the brackets differ, I do not know.

I cannot explain the difference in shifter part numbers. The GM #3960609 is the shifter that was used from 1969 to 1976. Just how the 3960607 figures into this I have no idea. Assuming that's not just an error in the AIM (it does happen), I would expect that if the 3960607 differs, at all, from the 3960609, it's a very subtle difference.

So my 70 should have zinc self tapping at the rear of the shifter support. I wonder which part number is shown in 71.

1971 used the GM #3975550. Curiously, 1969 used the GM #9419402.

I do not know, for sure, if the 3975550 was zinc. I have no good information regarding specs for this part number.
