Seeking Owner History 65 Fuelie-Rockford, IL

This is a follow-up to my earlier posting regarding previous owners of my 1965 Fuelie Coupe. I have been able to track the car back to 1974 when the car was purchased by a Michael P Cenni in Rockford, IL. I was able to contact Mr. Cenni but he was unable to recall who he had purchased the car from. The car was painted a firemist gold and had a black tuck and roll interior and had six tail lights. If you were a gear-head living in the Rockford area back in the early 70's and have any recollection of this car I would really like to hear from you! Mike was pretty certain car was bought new by a sailor stationed in San Diego when it was purchased new in 1965 at Guaranty Chevrolet.

Contact Jim Gessner. He has a directory recording the history of approximately 540 1965 Fuelies. If you want to send me your VIN via private e-mail I can look it up and let you know (private) what if any info there is. But Jim would be the source (or one of them) in my opinion.

      Greg:

I have been communicating with Jim Gessner and several other fuelie owners since I registered the car on the 65 FI site, (VIN# 194375S107762) however I am looking for info that is almost ancient history. I am currently contacting various people in northern Illinois that were active in repair and sales of Vette's and parts back in the late 60's and early 70's. I worked in a repair shop in eastern Iowa back in the late 60's that specialized in Vettes and we worked on or knew of almost every car in the area. Hopefully this will turn something up.

      thanks for your response.

            Jack,
Call "STRECH" , or BOB ZIMMERMAN his real name. He can be found at CLASSIC MOTOTRS INC. in NAPERVILLE, IL. He is a #1 Corvette restorer. Did Many of the Richard Buxbaum cars in the late 60's and early 70's for Jack Douglass. He might remember the car. His work phone is (630) 357-5170. Great guy. He knows the other guys in the area who are still playing hard with these cars.

New Region Director BILL BRAUN in McHenry, IL may also know. The "CHICAGO GUYS" are all fun and many menbers have been playing with these cars from back in the day. Bill is (815) 344-8276

              Jim:

Thanks for the info! I'm waiting for pics from previous owner (Mike Cenni circa 1974-1977) showing the car as it was during that period. The car should have stood out as it was firemist gold with Black tuck and roll and six tail lights. Thought it might be helpful to circulate those pics. I spoke to Mike this morning and he said he actually purchased the car while living in in Wintrop Harbor a small town just south of Kenosha. He moved to Rockford not long after.

This has been a blast tracking these guys down. Hope it leads somewhere! I took pretty good pictures of the engine compartment back in 1993 when I purchased the car. It shows the rad support (w/ long head hex screws), hipo alternator, finned balancer, exhaust manifolds, motor with windage tray, etc. but it would sure be nice to have some additional documentation.

I really appreciate everyones support in this search. Should have done it years ago.
