    front end alignment

Tapered shims between the frame and the front suspension sub frame.
Can someone explain to me why the shims are installed or not installed and their purpose. Seems like they change the caster adjustment starting point for more adjustment of the lower control rod. Can a shim be installed on one side only? What is the thickness supposed to be from one end to the other? Any help will be appreciated.

    Re: front end alignment

From Star Spangled Sports Car: "Shims between the front crossmember and the frame increased the caster angle to 2 degrees. Shimming also altered the angle of the central steering idler arm so that the rol oversteer geometry was taken out of the front suspension."

You should install one on both sides.
