Help with verifying matching engine number on 62

I just bought a 62 that the engine and car serial #'s are very simular. The car SSN is 20867S100277 and the engine # looks like S or 2 then 100277 F0402HF. Is this a matching engine?

The "HF" indicates a 1965 327 with 300 hp and manual trans. 62 motots would end with RC, RD, RE, RF, SC, and SD.

I'd double check the suffix again. Got a casting date, by any chance ??

            John -

It's raised on the rear flange of the block (where the bellhousing bolts up), about 6" toward the passenger side from the distributor. It'll be a letter for the month, one or two numbers for the day, and one number for the year, with a screw head impression at each end. See photo below.

Hi John. John H has a good point get the cast date off the back of the motor. Your car was built the first couple of days of production in August 61. so your motor should cast March 61 (C ?? 1) your assy date is April 2. and if Mick W is right you got yourself a nice early fuel injected car. Good Luck Phil 8063

Here's a pic of a pic of the block casting number at the rear top driver side of the block.....If it is a passenger car block....the casting letters will be smaller and the cast date on the opposite of the block will be a different format than previos pic shown ( year will be 2 digits )

Doesn't work out correctly--they weren't building 62 fuelie motors in April of 61--they were building 315hp CS fuelie blocks. I think he has a later block on which someone added the VIN.

Hi Mike, good point, your right seems a lot early, do you know when the 870 blocks started? Phil 8063

Going from memory, my '62 no. 399, had it's 870 block cast in real early Aug. '61. Heads (250hp with 896 heads) were cast mid July. I would be happy to check if wanted.
