    1967 Tail light assemblies

Which vendors offer the most accurate repop? Do any have a light colored lens gasket? I say light because after 43 years they may have changed their color. I have one repop in now but the chrome did not hold up (20 years ago) and it has a black lens gasket?

Also, how thick and soft and what color should the gasket be that is installed between the body and the lens housing?

    Don -

The Trim Parts taillights are as close as you'll find to the originals (the other less-costly Taiwan repros are junk); they even have the "wicks". There is no gasket between the lamp housing edge flange and the body surface.

I don't have my AIM handy so I was trying to describe the gasket as shown in the Long Island parts book, Section 05 p/n 21 "Tail Light Mounting Gaskets". The don't go behind the housing flange but rather behind the housing itself.

I don't recall offhand what color they are, and don't have any out of the car to check.

Not sure about 67's but in 65 they were black.

            Don,

Here is a picture of the original (or very old service replacement) LH Inboard tail light from the '67 and the Trim Parts LH Inboard tail light.

In the '67 AIM the tail lights are located at UPC 12-A6. The part you referenced at LIC (05-21) looks the same in the picture on their website, EXCEPT the LIC gasket has holes punched out where the lens attaching screws would come through, while the Trim Parts gasket has circular indentations where the holes should be.

The Trim Parts lens screws are not long enough to stick all the way through the housing, but the original screws do, by about 1/16", enough to feel.
            Original Tail Light Screw: #8-32 x 5/8"
Trim Part Tail Light Screw: #8-32 x 1/2"
