    What is it?

I am restoring a 61 F.I. car. It had the wrong motor in it, but it had been there for a long time. It is an old Drag Racer. I have the original motor in it. I m trying to identiby the parts as I sort through them. I foung out the Block is a 58' 283. I have not been able to identify the 4 barrel intake that was on it through the differend books I have. Any ideas where I could look. The # is 3827184 the date may be J 2 68?

    Thasnks,

The number is 3927184 and the applications are as Dick mentions. Also used on many other Chevrolet small blocks of the 1968-69 period.

Thanks guys! I also want to extend my appreciation to both of you. You both have helped me with may things in the past. If is not asking too much. One other piece I would like to identify is the rear end. The part # is 3707306 The other code, maybe date, is BB 1021. If I am asking too much, don't worry about it.

My list shows the 3707306 rear end housing as a 56 corvette part. Possibly passenger car also.
I'm not sure of the date code.

            Jack -

The "BB" ratio code pegs it as a 1956 passenger car center section, originally a 3.55:1 (Corvette codes started with an "A"), assembled on October 21, 1955.

Carrier housing GM #3707306 was used for 1956 only for both passenger cars and Corvettes. All assemblies originally using this housing were non-posi (open) type.

The "BB" code indicates it originally, and perhaps still, contained a 3.55:1 gearset and was originally used in a 1956 passenger car with Powerglide transmission.

Thanks guys. That was great. I get an education every time I post a question.

I have two more if you don't mind. I am restoring my 61 convertable top frame. I beleve it calls for a "semi gloss" finish. Any suggestions on what paint product to use? Aslo I am going NCRS but it will also be a "driver". Do you have any suggestions as to what headlight lamps would give me the most light? When I take it to judge I know I need the correct T3's.

                Sincerly,
                Jack Alexander 35730

                  Jack,
There are a number of halogen headlights that are direct replacements for the old T3s. Choose your favorite brand.
I have had Sylvania bulbs in my 62 for about 15 years.
