Jeff -- since nobody's responded, let me throw this in, even though it's almost a year later than you are aiming your question(s) at. Pic is of a Jan '64 half shaft yoke with about 4.5 years of use (removed in 1968). I don't have a '63 or '64 AIM, but I believe the thin angled lock is the first design #3843385, that was changed to #3860543 [looks like the lock we're familiar with] sometime during later '64 production. The bolts are a tad under 1_1/8" shank length, and the unthreaded part is 5/16".

Hope this will prompt others to post to your specific range of '63's.

Jeff,

For what it is worth, my 12,000 mile, mid-May build '63 (15192) coupe does not have the half shaft locks. It does not apear that the half shafts were ever removed.
