Did all N89 screwdrivers have writing on them? Were there more then one supplier for the screwdriver or just Irwin?

Re: 1967 bolt on wheel screwdriver
Mike; I believe that Irwin was the only suppler. I have a copy of the original engineering drawings and it states that " Manufacturer's identification must appear on this part: omission requires approval" so I would say that they all have writing on them. Here is a picture of 2 known unrestored Irwin 200-5" screwdrivers.

Re: 1967 bolt on wheel screwdriver
Mike, while Chevrolet did have two part numbers (3798116 and 3855238) for what it referred to in ECR’s (Engineering Change Recommendations) as the Part Name “Screw-Driver”, there is no indication that Part #3798116 was ever sourced.
As indicated above Irwin was the source for Part # 3855238. Interestingly, that Screw-Driver was sourced as early as 1963 for another application, but there is no documentation that orders were placed before the 1967 production year.
While the engineering drawing does specific that the handle must have the manufacturer’s identification, it does not specify how that identification is to appear. There are purported to be original screwdrivers with single line identification like the one pictured below.
Are there several versions of the Screw-Driver’s identification? With all the ECR’s, letters and drawings there is no conclusion that can be drawn.Attached Files- Top
