    Hood won't open on 62

Ever get that sinking feeling when you pull the hood release and no hood pop? Happened today. What's the best approach? Go from underneath with a long hooked rod to catch the release or should I try something else? Any thoughts appreciated.

    Bill,

This has happen to me on several occassions. Have someone pull the handle and you lightly tap on the coners above the latches with a balled fist. I said lightly. It is should pop right open. Be sure to put a little grease on the male and female hood latch catches

Bill, same problem with my '57 about 45 years ago and again today. The bowden cable broke. Each time I went from under the car and pulled down on the latch with a long hooked rod. The first time I replaced the original males with new original males. I hate repeat problems so close together.

Success! The problem was the rigid outer cable housing was moving, thus not allowing the inner cable to slide out. Part of the issue was the fact that it was in a garage with poor access so opening the door wide and looking under the dash was difficult. This is a "barn fresh" car that I just bought so this is undoubtedly the first of many little issues that will need attention.

You can't say "just purchased a barn fresh car" without posting some pictures.

I will try to post some today. I have known of this car for 32 years. I tried to buy it from the current woman owner when I was looking for my first Corvette in 1979. She drove it up until three years ago. Has 1966 327 but looks like no hit body, very good silver two stage paint, and a tired convertible top. The four speed has correct shifter. The rest of the investigation will have to wait until it arrives today.

I think I'm pretty clever to be able to get on the TDB and to actually post messages, so being able to post pictures through Photobucket is too advanced science for me. If anyone would like to see the 62 as it emerges from its garage please email me at wemillis@gmail.com. I do know how to send attachments with emails. I can also show how it's cleaning up very nicely. The next step is to get rid of the cheapo black wall radials and install correct tires once again. Repies probably won't happen today as Maine just received the latest installment of our snowfall allocation and cleaning up is in order.
