    1967 Production numbers

Here's an oddity. Maybe someone can explain the discrepancy. Here are the highest recorded body numbers from my little 1967 database. They don't seem to add up.

    StL. conv. 9403
    StL. coupe 6570
    AOS conv. 4977
    AOS coupe 2289
    total........23,239
which is 299 more than were actually produced and I don't have any entries for the last 100+ cars. My AOSmith data is a little sparse, but there are enough entries that I don't think any of the above numbers is a 'fake'.

Robert --- you've discovered similar results to Noland Adams' numbers in his Vol 2. He found 23,280 by totalling the 4 body styles/sources, with examples closer to the EOP than you have. Ref. pg. 40; except you're 105 more on the A-body convertibles.

I've heard wild stories of extra Ionia "astro (?) glide" bodies intended for private builders after (or prior to) Ionia C2 body production end. Probably just a rumor.

Anyway, the REAL last '67 A-body convertible (or probably any C2 A-body) doesn't offer a clue, as they zero'ed the A-body count. This appeared in a Restorer issue way back. The body date code on this trim tag is K27.

Thanks Wayne. It's been a while since I read Noland's book. I also haven't found a car produced in September, November, or December that used an AOS built body-yet.

        Robert -

That's because A.O. Smith was on strike from September to early January.

Thank you John. There's a whole lot of knowledge on this board and I appreciate it.
