    Auminum Intake For Single WCFB

    Here's a trivia question.
Did Chevy make a small block Winters Foundry single four intake for a WCFB?

I recall some years ago there was a discussion about an unusual Winters intake with a GM casting number that I think was configured for a single WCFB, and I recall the answer was that it was made for a small block used in a military vehicle, but was never used for a civilian auto or truck application.

I picked up this intake many years ago at a swapmeet as it really got my curiosity up...a little rough in the crossover. I thought about mounting it on my 58 just as a conversation starter, but thought better of it.

Ok, Duke is right, of course.
In my research trying to find out the history of this intake, I found out that it was used on the U. S. Army M114 Light Scout Vehicle.

The M114 was built by GM in a Cadillac plant (later managed by Chrysler) and used a Chevy 283 with the aforementioned aluminum intake manifold. The intake was configured for the WCFB and also had port bosses on the #2, 8, 3, and 5 intake runners. It was only rated at 160 net hp and was underpowered. The engine was designed to be removed for maintenance or replacement as a "power pack".

          Thanks for refreshing my memory.

I have to chuckle. The gov't. was willing to pay more to tool up and produce a special manifold that saved 10 pounds on a 15,000 pound gross weight vehicle!

Your tax dollars at work..., but it sure is a cool piece!

The 160 net HP rating sounds about right for what was (probably) a low compression version of the base Corvette 283, and the grunts could brag that their "tank" had a "Corvette engine".

Remember, the 1975 base 350 was only rated at 165 net HP.

Check out that triple belt fan and generator drive and the huge fan, but only a single belt for the coolant pump...!?

They could have used the patterns, core boxes & machining fixtures from the CI version & made the aluminum one. Iron & aluminum shrink the same. .010 per inch.
