I see Corvette Central, Zip, and Paragon offer rivet crimping tools for the rivets on the C1 rear axle rebound strap retainers. Anybody wish to share their experience with any of them?

Re: C1 Rear Axle Rebound Strap Rivet Crimp Tool
Chris, Check with your chapter in your area, and see if someone has purchaced one maybe someone will loan it to you. rather than buy it for a one time use. I believe that there was a post a while back where someone was lending the tool and just pay for the postage.,There are some great guys here in our N.E. Chapter, Rons resto, Bow tie shop.

Re: C1 Rear Axle Rebound Strap Rivet Crimp Tool
Chris, I believe that Paragon rents their crimp tool. CC sells theirs for about $30.00. You will need to go to their website to get the instructions on how to use it. I purchased and used the CC tool and thought it worked quite well. I wish you good luck with your restoration. Brooks Glover (2141)- Top

Re: C1 Rear Axle Rebound Strap Rivet Crimp Tool
I used the tool about a year ago to crimp rivets. The tool works fine, but the difficult part of the task is holding the stiff canvas strap loop in place with the rivet through the hole and installing the crimping tool at the same time. I used narrow strips of duck tape to hold the strap loop while I positioned the crimping tool over the rivet. The rivet is barely long enough to extend through both pieces of the rebound strap.- Top

Re: C1 Rear Axle Rebound Strap Rivet Crimp Tool
Thank you all.
Jerry, the body is on the frame. But look in the archives for help with your question. This has been solved before.
Brooks, yes Paragon rents one for $50. But Zip and CC sell different ones for around $30. Then there's another one around for more money.
Bob, sent you an email. I'll be calling in a few weeks if this snow ever goes away. I can't get to my car.- Top

Re: C1 Rear Axle Rebound Strap Rivet Crimp Tool
Joe, go to Corvette Central's website and look at the instructions on using the tool. They show clamping everything together for a dry run before crimping the rivets. Clamping everything together compresses the thick straps a bit making it a little easier when you go for putting in the rivets for the final assembly. It worked for me. Good luck! Re: C1 Rear Axle Rebound Strap Rivet Crimp Tool
I bought the one from CC and it worked fine. I invested in a needle-nosed vice-grip to hold the strap in place for a few minutes before installing the rivet tool. Also learned to put a little dab of grease on the end of the rivet setting screw that crushes the end of the rivet. Seems to help. My tool should be on its way back from a fellow member using it out East. If you can't find one I'll loan you mine for the cost of postage.- Top
