Here's a pic. of my original 65.The box has no residual black paint but the coupler does which is correct according to the above sheet for a tele. column.

There does appear to be a bit of black on the gear box also. If the gear wasn't coated originally, I would think it would show more rust.
The chassis black coating on the gear assy definitely didn't last long, especially in northern climates.
I would be surprised if many/any 63-67 gear assy's escaped the black coating.

I see all of the chassis black has been washed off of the frame also.
