    1969 Distributor Shielding

I have a 1969 350/350 that I am starting to restore. The car is an October 1969 build. The distributator shielding that was present on the car is different from others that I have seen. In addition to the holes for the wing nuts, there are 2 additional holes for additional bolts. The shielding appears to be original and not the bright chrome present on newer pieces. I would be interested in comments from someone with original shielding that could provide information on the type and finish for these additional bolts. Thanks for any information.

Steve, your shielding looks just like my original early 1970 small block shielding. We are blessed to have two-piece box shielding. I suspect the shielding you have seen has spot welds on the passenger side, rather than the holes shown closest to the camera in your picture.

If you ever have to change spark plug wires or work on the distributor (change points or distributor cap) you will come to appreciate the two-piece shielding. Any of those tasks with the one-piece, spot welded, shield is just so much more trouble.

Once I resurrect my desktop from the dead I can post pictures of the assembled shielding, but the two pieces should be fastened together on the side close to the camera by two silver colored pan head (might be round head, I would have to look again) Phillips (R) head screws. The rest of the holes are attached by the wing bolts to the distributor shield supports.

        Steve,
Some time in the last year or so there was a thread on this subject in which Joe Lucia posted photos of the original screws from his late 1969 built car. Hopefully you can find it using the search function.
