    63 body mount kit question

I opened up my body mounting kit fromt L.I. corvette today and was looking at the kit, and noted that there are 2 rubber rectangle blocks in the kit. has anyone put these blocks in and where do they belong? It looks like from the pic.s there give you its somewhere around the #4 Body mount area? Thanks Ed.

    Ed -

Those two pads have been found on top of the diff area frame crossmember in various orientations on some original cars (see photo below someone posted), although they aren't called out in the Assembly Manual. Original cars have also been seen without them - don't know when they started or stopped; maybe the '63 guys know more about them.

        Ed,

I think the rubber blocks are the same as what's used on the 62 Corvette frame. These parts are shown the the 1963 shop manual in the frame section and refered to as shims I think. They keep the floor supported and also from vibrating.

I don't know if other mid years used them, the picture John posted is how they are shown in the shop manual.

Tim, I would think the extra support maybe a good idea?? When I get ready to drop the body back down onto frame I will look at the clearance between the frame and body.there was no pads when I took body off.

            Ed,

Look carefully at the frame for signs of glue and this might tell if they were on the car.

I remember a discussion here some time ago with regard to the cushions and some owners reported just one used on there cars. My car had only one but it's hard to say if it left St Louis like that, it's got two now..

Use them. IIRC they are shown in the shop manual, but not the AIM. They will keep the load floor from drumming. My SWC always had a noticeable acoustical resonance at about 2000 revs because they weren't there.

              They are now.
