    Hanson Mysterious Final Blackout

Mr Hanson started an informative discussion about state of 63/64 chassis prior to final asphalt coating application. It would be valuable to 63/64 owners to complete the discussion and understand the St Louis manufacturing process. Tracy Crisler and I are at least two members, who are extremely interested in the subject.

the entire rear area in blackout (picture is too large to upload & if reduced in size it becomes useless).

Yet another item along this line (& part of it?) is the "waxy undercoating"
When said topic has been raise usually the answer is the dealer did undercoating as a profit add on. An Extremely good answer & very probable however my Mar64 and a friends Jun64 car both have such "waxy undercoating" Now last month I talked to the original owner of my 64 and he stated it did NOT have it undercoated and since the order (car) came in a little late, know he would not have waited for the car to be undercoated as a free bee before taking.

This is the one you're thinking of ?

                    Hubba Hubba Wayne...good stuff!

Another source of good information would be in the Nolan Adams collection that Russ Uzes had planned to make availible.

Those "hubble telescope" 63 & 64 undercarriage/chassis pictures from Nolan's 63-7 restoration book would be VERY telling indeed.

If I could only get copies..

By 1966 this waxy or asphaltic (better description) type undercoating for noise or stone peck was fairly well defined (I thought) and I am pretty sure John Hinckley has even provided pictures or sketches of how it was to be applied.
                      Ron -

Two different animals being discussed. The coarse-textured body undercoating/sound deadener material was sprayed essentially as a "stripe" in the wheel wells in the Paint Shop. The shiny "chassis black" paint applied as part of the final chassis blackout operation was sprayed on the chassis in the last station on the Chassis Line, just prior to Body Drop.

Beginning in '65, the final chassis blackout was pretty much limited only to the mufflers and associated overspray, although it's also been noted on the front stabilizer bar on some units.
