I purchased the car in August 1967 and that pump was on it then. Know the 2nd owner (spring 66 - August 67) and what he replaced, not the pump. Then the first owner who ordered car also said pump was not replaced, he's a current NCRS member with a beautiful green BB coupe.
So my confidence is high on the pump being original.

Know when I first had car judged, 2007, one of the top engine guys felt only the cast base was real however as time went on more credible information came out to confirm the stamped bottom was also used.
    Alan,

I could not really tell if there were one or two ribs in the front of the pump from your photo. Thanks for clearing that up.

Since your "40083" pump is original I guess the stamped steel bottoms were the 1st design and the cast bottoms maybe came in later years.

Enclosed are photos of a NORS AC 40083 (GM # 6415325) fuel pump about 1977 vintage. There are no "AC" castings on the pump. This pump only has one rib. The pump has a cast bottom. The pump has an aluminum tag stamped "AC" (in a circle), "C6" (March 1976???), and "578" (May 1978???). There is no casting year in the hole above the outlet. The AC (GM) box is dated either Jan. 1977 or December 1977.
I installed this pump on my 1966 Corvette in July 1989 but never started the engine. About a month later I removed it and installed a 4657 pump.
