    Missing Piece

    Hi Guys,

Well, I am in trouble again. I am almost finished with restoring my 61 F.I. car! Ran into a problem maybe you can help me with. I found out I am missing a Lisence Plate holder for the rear of the car. It goes inside the recessed cavity for the Lisence Plate. I have looked at most of the normal suppliers I go to, and can't seem to find it. Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Jack Alexander 35730

Who told you it is missing? What is it suppose to look like? Are we talking outside the fiberglass? Can you post a picture of what your plate area looks like now with a description of what you think is missing cause I for one can't picture what it is you are missing?. Between the Chrome surround is two holes at the top to mount the plate and a bumper on the bottom to keep it from rattling. Now the 56-60's had a T-bracket that held the plate, but not 61-62.

the black stamped steel plate that bolts to the body(connecting to the bumper braces) isn't available as a repo to the best of my knowledge. i had to buy one from a friend for the 62 i'm currently doing. mike

        Hi Terry,

Nice hearing from you again. You have helped me many times. What you describe is what I now have. The Tech manual however shows a bracket that is black painted metal that basicaly follows the countours of the recess . The Lisence fastens to it. I have seen one on a 62 that is in the restoration shop where my car is being finished up. I believe you first install the Lisence light fixture then this piece. Lastly the Stainless surround goes on. The guy that has the shop is a NCRS judge. James Ranahan. He pointed it out to me. Now unless he is wrong and there is one on the 62 and not on the 61 maybe, that is the answer. He could be wrong. I can possible get a photo later.

        Thanks,
        Jack

Is this the piece behind the fiberglass?

Yes the photo and description is correct. GM lists the part # as 3776065. It is found in the 61 Service manual in section 14 page 3.00 It is in the 62 Manual also.

The stamped steel plate support is not reproduced but they show up on e bay frequently. it's 61 62 only so if you keep an eye on those two years I'll bet you will find one. Good luck Rich
