    NCRS Vinyl vs. Leather Seats

I own a small block 67 Convertible. 95% of the 2006-07 restoration followed NCRS standards. However, when it came to the seats, I made the decision to replace the "vinyl" seat covers with "leather." Trim Tag clearly indicates "vinyl" interior. I am now considering Bloomington in June followed by NCRS in the fall. I really don't want to go through the hassle and expense of switching back to "vinyl." Any comments or opinions regarding what I may expect from the "JUDGES" would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

There is a standard deduct for a material change (maintaining the original color) of 50% of the originality points for a start. Been that way forever, or at least since we wrote the first judging manuals in the early 80's.

I lost 14 pts for leather instead of vinyl, the color was correct.

Addendum to Clupper's post: 50% if the color was available that model year, 100% if not.

Now that you have the NCRS answer go to the Bloomington Gold website and email them for their position on your changes. Do not assUme that both organizations have the same position.

James, you have already gotten advice from the best .... so I'll just add my quick story.

I was/am in the same boat with my own '67.
The original factory vinyl were still in it when I bought it. I wanted leather, but just couldn't bring myself to taking the points hit.

I hunted around and found another set of '67 bucket seats from a guy building a pro-street. Bought them in extremely nice, original condition for $500.
I consider the $500 seat investment, as well as the cost of the leather seat covers as "money in the bank". They will never drop in value in my lifetime, should I ever choose to resell them.
I'll use the original vinyl seats to go to the "show", and then use the leather buckets for my cross-country touring. Probem solved for me.
Of course someone wouldn't want to pay thousands for the example of the seats offered on ePay, ....but one never knows when deals will pop up.

Good luck with your decisions, ...
            Ridge

Pink leather will be a very neat combo with jetstream blue!
