    Ac Condenser Foil

I am replacing the "Fridge" label on my 66 AC compressor. When ordering the new label from Corvette Central on-line it asks for the date code. Not seeing where to put it in the order I called CC on the phone. The lady taking the order was not sure how the code gets put on, but was kind enough to ask someone and came back with...."You type it in after it gets to you"......OK

How do you 'type it in' when typewriters are no longer around? Is it stamped and not typed

    Any ideas?

    Dan:

Typewriters are still around.........you just have to look.

Most folks use an IBM Selectric typewriter. Banks, credit unions, and law offices still have them around. The type and size of the font you need can be found in the archives.

Some folks have used laser printers and stamps, but the IBM typewriter is still the most original looking.

Does your old label still show a date code?

      Larry,

Thank you very much for the response. I will start lining up a typewriter while waiting for delivery.

The code on the label right now is: C41361 The fourth digit '3' was the toughest to read. At first I thought it was a 'B'. The foil had some overspray from the previous owner and was worn along the ridge line.

Thanks again for your assistance. It is greatly appreciated!

The date code is explained in your Judging Manual, but it is MMDDYS......where M stands for the month, D stands for the date, Y is the year, and S is the shift.

There should be no "C". I think your code is "041361" or April 13, 1966, first shift. How does this date compare to your car's build date. Usually for these early AC cars, the AC components were typically dated a month or 6 weeks ahead of the car's birthday. So if the compressor is original to your car, I would expect that you have a late May or early June built car. But, as always, there are exceptions. Let us know what you have and when your car was built.

I'm unsure what the character height is on a typewriter , but........

How about one of these. It's 3/16" height and it looks like similar script. They have others too.

            Larry,

Thanks for the info....again. The date of 04/13/6 with shift 1 would be almost dead on. The ambiance that I have with my Vette says that it was built between April 16 and April 23rd. The Vin is 194376S120047.

I very recently joined NCRS and ordered a judging book. I will soon have more information to access all the uts and bolts that make up a beauty.

I have one of those available as well. My original question was the date typed or was it stamped? I can not really tell if the indentation made by 'dating' process on the foil had ink within the letters indicating typing or was it clean indicating a stamping.

I don't think these labels were done on a typewriter... My hunch is they were on tractor feed stock and indexed through a teletypewriter using a special ribbon. To my knowledge, NOBODY makes a 'TTY' font set for either computer or IBM Selectric use.

Jack....again thanks for the assistance. I wish it were simple by giving Corvette Central the information and they apply the code, but you do not always get what you are looking for. When it arrives I will use a metal stamp and then fill in with some ink. I doubt if a judge spotted what I did and it were to be enough to knock me down and lose a show, I would lose for other reasons.

                  again thanks...Dan
