Which Cap is Correct for 1956?

Guys, I am still working on my 1956. The body is back on the chassis and hopefully it is going to look like a car again before too long. I had my master cylinder rebuilt and have 2 caps. I am leaning toward using the one on the left. Hopefully I can download the picture of them so you can tell me which is the one to use. Thanks in advance!

I would say go with the cap on the left with the large 5300880. I am no expert, but I recently looked at my friend's 56 master cylinder that he had sent out for rebuild. His cap had the larger #'s. He has owned his car since 1957, so I believe his cap to be an original. I am sure someone will chime in if I'm wrong. Regards, Jim

Jim, thanks for your reply. I believe the same as you that the one on the left is original and was hoping that someone would chime in on the other cap. It is basically the same size except for the size of the letters. Possibly it is a service replacement although the ones I have seen were plastic. Hopefully we will see. Brooks Glover (2141)

Here is my original cap, 24K original miles. The CLR I soaked it in overnight might have eaten away at some of it though...

Alexander, thanks for your reply to my post. Your cap looks more like the one on the left side in my picture. I still wonder what the one on the right side is? I still hope someone will chime in on this one. We will see.

The one on the left with larger font, is what I'm used to seeing/pulling off scrap yard cars from the late 50's and early 60's. I HAVE to believe that with this part being used in the MILLIONS of units/annum volume level, there was MORE THAN ONE set of factory production tooling for the cover. And, I'll bet my bottom dollar that that tooling changed over time.

1956 is reasonably early, so I'll take a wild arse guess that the cover on the right with its smaller font has a snowball's chance in Hell of being correct. Further, I'll bet most judges give full credit for either part...

The one on the left is like the original cap on my previously owned '56 that passed all NCRS, BG and Triple Crown judging. I can't say what the one on the right side is from.
