    C1 Removing rear backing plates

I am in the process of removing for cleanup/replacement the rear brake backing plates on my 1961. I've removed the axles and brake hardware and shoes, but the backing plates don't seem to budge. Are they just rusted to the axle housing after 50 years or am I missing something?
Thanks in advance for your time.

    John,

if you have removed the axles like you say I don't think there is nothing else holding them as the 4 bolts (square heads) with the lock washers and nuts had to be removed. Based on that I would shoot some liquid wrench or something on that order around where the plate meets the axle nousing then get a piece of wood and place it along the backside of the housing flange where it makes contact with the plate and hit it with a hammer a few times, alternate sides and it should come off. If memory serves me correctly you will also find a thin paper/cardboard gasket between the plate and the axle housing flange. Good luck.

Thanks Jim for the quick reply confirming my thoughts, I just didn't want to start pounding on things unless I knew that was the right thing to do. I appreciate your time and help with this.
