    Body build date

In the latest TIM&JG, mechanical section, page 88, for a May 66 car, it lists the St. Louis body build date as "I." I assume that's the last one it could be. The last 5 of the serial number is 22,558, so the car was built around May 24, 1966. The Protecto Plate shows the build month as J (May). Is that the car or the body? I sure hope it's the car! On the trim tag it says body S7139. So, where do I find the body build date code?

    Thanks,
    Joe

Joe -- not quite sure what you mean by the above (in bold font). What's the two numbers to the right of the letter "I" on the trim tag, and is that date within a day or two of the calculated 24th May ?

Ron -- the letter "I" was used on trim tags -- in the case of Joe's S-body car, it is May; if a Dow-Smith A-body, "I" would be April.

Wayne, I'm just saying I don't think the body date would have preceded the car date by very much, and certainly couldn't be after. Joe

            Wayne and Ron,

Thanks for your help. I had a shot of the trim tag, but my photographic skills ain't so hot. It is hard to make out very much. So I copied down the info. Here it is:

Style 124 or is that I24?
            66 467
            Trim 450BA
            Body S7139
            Paint 976AA

I hope this helps clear things up.

              Joe,

The three-alphanumeric to the right and above the STYLE word on the trim tag is one letter and two numbers. So yours is the letter I, followed by 24, which is May 24, which is perfect for a car with a birthday of May 25, which is what the current birthday calculator gives on the C2 Corvette Registry (http://www.c2registry.org).

You said the car's birthday was May 24, which would also be acceptable. Did you get that date from the new Dealer info request? If so, you should consider entering your car into C2 Registry database, so they can improve their birthday calculator. There's a car with a VIN of 22551 already in the C2 database and it lists a birthday of May 25 for that car as well. That could be off if your date of May 24 for when the car came off the assembly line is correct.

                Gary,

Sorry, I was going from memory, which is always a dangerous thing in my case. The car's build day is May 66 as best as I can tell using the St. Louis midyear birthday calculator. I had forgotten that you can plug the trim tag info into our web site also. Here's what it came up with for my car:

I have not requested the shipping data yet, but I should. I'll see about putting my info on the C2 registry. Thanks for your help, I feel a whole lot better now!

                  Joe,

By any chance is the original frame stencil visible on your car?

                    Hi Gary,
Can provide some info on 194376s1 22551. It was listed on ebay in May of 2005 by someone in Marion, Ohio.
                    J12 build date (May12)
                    66437 style
                    A-4215 body
                    Std interior
                    988 paint
The May 25 date provided from the C2 registry was just a guess like all of the calculators.
                    Regards,

                      Gary,

I went ahead and put the car in the C2 registry database. I also sent off for the shipping data. I'll fill in the shipping date on the C2 registry once I get the report back. Thanks again for your help.

                        Gary,

I seriously doubt it since it has been in the Midwest most of its life. It was my uncle's only car. He put about 100,000 miles on it in all kinds of weather. But, just for grins, where would the stencil be located?
