Before I send my horns out for restoration, thought I would check on the date codes. My '66 has a build date of 4 November 1965. The codes on my horns are 5J2, and 5F4. Am I correct in assuming that these, respectively, would translate to 1965, October 2, and 1965, June 4? Why do you suppose there is a four month range in the dates on the horns that were installed? Thanks for your input.

Mark --- I wouldn't worry about the spread between the horn dates. Even the 5F4 is a 5-month lead, still within the 6-month rule-of-thumb. And don't forget the 6(or whatever)-week summer shut-down between model years; I don't know if Delco Remy would have a matching duration vacation.
I have a similar situation, but a year earlier, with my November 6th or 7th 1964 car, first batch off after the strike. Car would have been produced the 26th of September if not for the strike. Pic of horns below, with 4G3 and 4H4 dates (July, 3rd week and August, 4th week) You'll see I'm saying "week" instead of "day" of the month, as I haven't seen any double digit suffixes [others please respond -- the '65 TIM&JG says the last numeral is day of month].
