    64 Carter WCFB Horse Power

    64 Carter WCFB
I purchased 64 327 4-sp with "300" HP. However it has a Carter WCFB carb 6-1672. Link on passenger side has 446, linkage on driver side to fluter has 263. Bowl has 0-1465. Foil has:
    3646247
    369 S
    A4
    Manifold has 3844457 GM8
    1) Is it possible this originaly had 300 HP?
    2) History is that engine components are all original but block was replaced. I don't see a block # on the right or left front, just two flat areas where maybe one should be. Where should I look for a block number?
    3) Previous owner said it has a non stock cam. What part# or specs can I use to install a cam that would enable 300 or 350 HP? What other parts would be needed? Value wise, should I just leave it alone? Thanks, Craig

    Craig -

That carburetor and intake manifold are for a 250hp '64. The raised block casting number is on the driver's side rear flange, behind the cylinder head (should be 3782870); the raised block casting date is on the other side, about 6" toward the passenger side from the distributor. What's stamped on the machined pad on the block directly in front of the passenger side cylinder head?

The '64 300hp engine had different cylinder heads, intake manifold, carburetor, etc. than the base 250hp engine.

      Craig,

1962-1964 250 HP cylinder heads have a 3795896 casting number but you must remove the valve cover to see the number. On the ends of these heads is casting symbol shaped something like a triangle or pyramid.

The higher HP heads have a 3782461 casting number and a "double hump" casting symbol on the ends.

      A 1964 Corvette w/300 HP & M.T. should have a 3721 AFB carb and a 3844459 intake manifold (or possibly a 3799349 intake depending on date).
