    69 Lt-1 ???

    Check out post # 41: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-g...the-c3s-3.html

    Was there ever a 69 LT-1 or even a 69 dealer installed LT-1 option?

    I've got a magazine featuring a road test of a 1973 LT1. Now that's rare!

I think this myth has pretty well been beaten to death that there were no production '69s with LT1. As for modifications/swaps dealers done after delivery, why not.

That's like saying the L-88 was available in 1970 as a dealer installed option. Just order the parts and build the engine. Or maybe the LS-7. It stretches the definition.

There was never a PRODUCTION 1969 LT-1 released for sale. However, there was at least one 1969 DEALER CREATED LT-1 by modifying a 1969 L-46 to what would have been the 1969 LT-1 configuration if it had been released. Basically, this involved the installation of a 1969 Z-28 intake manifold, carburetor, and camshaft.

A dealer-created 1969 LT-1 is no different than a post-factory-created LT-1 done by anyone else. The fact that a dealer happened to create it does not result in any "original legitimacy".

Joe - can you tell us when the 3972178 camshaft was released to service parts.

I skimmed the article and didn't see where they changed the cam - just the induction system, which was basically off the DZ 302.

One could not have created a true LT-1 clone until the cam was available.

I can't pin it down precisely, but I expect that the LT-1 cam, GM #3972178, was not available in SERVICE until early in the 1970 model year. For Corvettes and Camaros, the 1970 model year did not begin until the 1970 calendar year. It's possible the 3972178 was released in late 1969 but I would say no sooner than November or December.

However, had the 1969 LT-1 been built, it was scheduled to use the GM #3849346 camshaft, the GM #3917610 intake manifold, and the GM #3923289 Holley carburetor. These were the same parts as used for 1969 Z-28 Camaro. So, an "authentic" 1969 LT-1 would not have been configured exactly like a 1970-72 LT-1 which, of course, were the only PRODUCTION LT-1's ever manufactured..
