Pictured are 5 different generator/alternator fans.
NOS GM # 1940994 fan painted black (13 blades w/1 rib per blade). Assembly line fans were zinc (or cadmium?) plated and were used on 1958 to 1963 models.
NOS GM # 3843346 fan painted black (11 blades w/1 rib per blade). Assembly line fans were zinc (or cadmium?) plated and were used on 1964 to 1969 models.
Original GM # 1966990 fan (11 blades w/2 ribs per blade) used on 1970-1971 (and maybe 1969 and early 1972) models. The one pictured below has the number "3" stamped on the large blade with the "hook". I also have 2 other similar fans probably made by different vendors. One fan is not stamped and the other is stamped "8161" along with an arrow pointing counterclockwise. These other two fans do not have the very pronounced "hook" on the largest blade.
Possibly GM # 1969448 (???) fan (11 blades, 4 blades w/3 ribs and 7 blades w/2 ribs) used on 1968-1969 models w/1100796, 1100810, 1100818, 1100845, 1100847, and 1100849 alternators as per 1969 Chevrolet Parts Catalogs. I have 3 of these fans so they can not be that rare.
A photo of a NOS GM # 800594 fan (10 blades, 2 blades w/3 ribs per blade and 8 blades w/2 ribs per blade) can be seen in another thread entitled "Alternator Fan" courtesy of Joe Lucia on 02/05/2011. The 800594 fan was used on 1972-1979 models.
I have my doubts that the fan I show as GM # 1969448 is correct but it is the only way the 5 fans fit with the 5 different part numbers. Is it possible that the fan that I show as GM # 1969448 is an early version of the 800594 fan? GM usually makes a part number change when modifications are made to a part. I would appreciate any comments.
