I am doing some research for the restoration of my convertible top frame. If you know that your '68 or '69 convertible top is original, please check the frame of your top's interior paint near the rear hinge area at the quarter panel cover. Please see the picture of the area in question. Is the paint in that area a gloss black or a flat black? There has been a question as to whether the frame is painted completely gloss black or has an area near the hinge that is flat black paint. Thanks for your replies.

Here you can look for yourself. This is a 68. To me the only piece of the soft top frame that doesn't look to be some shade of semi-gloss black is the rear bow that sits on the rear car deck, it looks to be a full gloss black.

Better look at the lower hinge area for you.Attached Files- Top

Thanks John for checking and the pictures.
I have no idea why the paint would be be different in the hinge area. It was different on my frame but the top is not original. Who knows what reason the previous owner could have painted the hinge area flat black or if it was done at the factory. So to recap your '68 convertible frame, the paint in that area looks the same as the rest, correct?Terry Buchanan

Yes, the hinge area show no signs of flat black paint.
The gloss level of all the pieces that make up the frame are a close match to each other. The only exceptions are the rear bow on my car which is much glossier and the other bows that are just a little bit more than the rest of the frame to my eye.
