    c2 bulkhead connector help

hi guys, wanted to pull my car out of the garage and it woudn,t start.went threw the check list and came down to the fact that the blk/pink connector on the fire wall for the ignition harness was pushed in so the harness was not making a connection therfore the ignition key wasn,t allowing the current to make contact. my question is how to stop the pin on the bulkhead to recess back in when i plug the harness to the firewall.its a 64 car with original dash harness, fusebox and bulk head connector.wires are very stiff under dash and dont want to touch anything to oped a can of worms. any help ideas allways great. thanks elio

The pin should have a little tab on it to keep it from pushing back, maybe it bent or broke off.

Yes....I had the identical problem on our '63 once. I had to pull the fuse box and found the ignition wire terminal tab was unsprung. A little tweak with a tiny screwdriver and all fixed.

You'll have to carefully loosen some of the harness tape away from the top of the fuse box to allow you to separate the terminal block away from the box to gain access to the back of the terminals. Be very carefully handling them as they're very delicate. You may want to clean them all if any corrosion is seen.

Elio - When you take the connection apart, examine the connector and the Fuse Panel thoroughly to make sure the plastic around the two pins hasn't melted probably from the heat from high resistance because of a poor connection of the pins so that the hole in the connector and/or possibly the Fuse Panel is enlarged. If so, the adjustment of the tangs will work for a while but the best fix is to repace the damaged connector body and/or Fuse Panel

This problem was common on 66-67 Chevelles where the water ran down from the windshield and then down the firewall onto the Fuse Panel.
