Burping a 54 Powerglide

It is about time for the Spring start up of the 54. What is the secret to prevent ATF from coming up the fill tube and spilling out? I seem to remember that I should put it in Drive rather than leaving it in P as it warms up. I sure don't have these issues with my C6. Bill

Start car in Nuetral and dont rev too high, I let mine warm up 4-5 minutes before a scenic, only has spewed when its reved too high but that may have been when I have added and didnt let it run through. Brad.

i think the reason for putting it in drive was the fluid in the transmission flows differently when in drive. comments have been made that extended running in the park position is bad for early powerglides. usually, if my powerglides were to burb it was as soon as i put it in drive!
