    Special thanks to Vinnie Peters

I know it has been said many times, but it needs to be said again....

Well done Vinnie on the latest issue of The Corvette Restorer. We have come to expect a high level of quality; you have spoiled us.

And you do not disappoint. Thanks for yet another fantastic issue.

And yes, I did enjoy that small picture taken in the swap meet area.

    Garcias senor.

Ditto Ed's comments. Each issue gets better. Very high quality content and production. Only one suggestion for improvement; Restorer and Driveline monthly! You just need 72 hour days and 14 day weeks.

Thanks Vinnie, Reba and all who contribute to the best auto publication out there.

Wow, is that a PD-4106 with an 8V-71? How do you keep it running?

Back in the summer of '66 between my sophomore and junior years at Washington, I ran the Westours operation in Juneau, AK. We did tours up to Mendenhall Glacier, and our newest coaches were GM fishbowls. I think they were 4502s, which was the 35 foot length, configured with four abreast seating.

They had 6V-71s with four speed crash boxes. Being as how I had perfected double clutching on my SWC, they were a breeze to drive.

I remember one tourist who was a bus driver. He sat up front to observe my technique. He said I drove like a pro!

My question is "How do you get all that food into a measly 35' bus?"

Duke - As an old, key word is OLD, highway coach driver it looks more like a 4104 to me and would have originally been an inline 6 cylinder. I don't think the 4106 came out until around 1959 or 60.

norm's got his old buses down pat. its a 1956 4104 with an inline 671. btw, the 71 , whether 471, 671 or 871 denotes the cisplacement of each cylinder so a 671 is 6 times 71= 426 ci. its got a 4 speed and double clutching is mandatory. its not got power steering and i'm just about feeble enough that i have trouble steering it in a stoped position. its an ex-Reading Pa greyhound that i bought 20 years ago from elderly brothers who had a country and western band .they sold it because they got too old to steer the old girl. both brothers cried like babies when i pulled out of their farm the day i bought it. i've since had the diesel rebuilt(sleeves, pistons etc, the whole ten yards). its got its original engine that had been rebuilt in the 70's when still in service. it doesn't exactly stop real quick. we're putting for sale signs on it when we get to martinsville. i too will shed a tear when it departs our farm as the old bitch has provided we boys with a bitchin time the last 21 years .mike
