Re: 57 Airbox column mounted tach question.
Jim,
I would REALLY love to go to a Cackle fest! But I've already committted to attending Chevellebration, which I've been going to for the past 11yrs.
Also, since I still have a full time job (at least for 9 more months), it is difficult to get off for multiple periods of several days at a time. We just returned from 2wks in Ireland and then I'll be gone for 1wk in June to CB11.
My next extended time off will probably be in Dec. I plan to take terminal leave for most of Dec before retiring.
And last, when it comes to choosing between a Chevelle event and a Vette event, the Chevelles take priority.Over 80 Corvettes of fun ! Love Rochester Fuel Injection 57-65 cars. Love CORVETTE RACE CARS

Re: 57 Airbox column mounted tach question.
I love Corvettes, but my 1965 White on blue SS Chevelle, with L-79 engine 327/350hp, 4 speed, Tach, dash clock, power windows, power metallic brakes, radio, full tint, 3:31 posi that I bought out of college was the one car I should have never sold. It took me from New Jersey to California and back three times, and served as the 'daily driver' until 1969 when Amy, my first daughter arrived. Station Wagons where needed then, so I bought a perfect 62 Olds Super 88 wagon. Nice car, but not even close to the Chevelle. That old Chevelle went over 160,000 miles with one clutch, and many tires, brakes and oil changes. Never let me down. Today I see they made 399,000 plus Chevelles in 65, with 64,532 in SS coupes. But only 6021 total cars with the L-79 engines. Well it was a $202.34 option, so I understand why not every one wanted one.
Do you have a clue what that car's worth today??????????????
I'd take it over ANY Vette (well, except maybe a GENUINE Airbox car)!
Even though our 70 conv is a "built" car, it is basically a factory car. It was 307/3sp, factory air, pwr drums, ps, AM radio, buckets and NO console.
I've replaced the 307 with a SB400 (still a SB car), replaced the 3sp with a Muncie, rebuilt the air cond system (still on cold R12) and added a 3.07 12bolt posi. Oh ya, I added a complete CI hood system. But all the parts are genuine Chevelle parts, so nothing has been cut or modified beyond a bolt-on part. It's a dream to cruise in winter or summer and 75mph on the Interstate is great!- Top
