Ques on making my own anti squeak pads

Reading some past threads, I have decided to make my own anti squeak pads for under my fuel tank and tank straps from 30# roofing felt.

I will glue a few layers together to roughly .100" thickness. Does anyone know the L x W dimensions for the pads under the straps as well a s the pads under the tank?

    Thanks,
    Pat

Pat, If you want it to look correct for judging the GM assembly only used one layer. Heavyest weight felt roofing does look very much like the original. That is what I use.

        Thanks guys,

Gene, I have read similar feedback and that 90# felt was very close to original but hard to locate. I have 30# paper and under the impression that I should glue a couple layers together. Seems .100" was the target give or take.

Alan & Gene, do either of you know the dimensions for the pads? I am finishing the second strap right now but hope to do the pads later today.

        Thanks again,
        Pat

Dr. Rebuild has done a very good job of reproducing these anti-squeak pads. They cost about 4 bucks for the pair. So, why mess around with making your own?

The C2 where 1 11/32 wide X 18 thick however Joe makes a logical point!

              Pat,
I think the heaviest (90# sounds right) is what I used. Now if I recall correctly the strips were about 2 inches wide. As to the length I just made then longer, glued them to the tank and cut off the excess. About 1 inch over hang to the tank on each end.

Hi Joe et all, I was under the impression that roofing felt was basically what the pads were made of and I have plenty of that to simply cut and glue my own.
Honestly though, I was not aware that anyones pads were good. I bought a pair for under the tank a while back from another good soucre and really shocked that not only did I pay too much for roofing felt, the pads were a paper thin. After reading some threads, seemed like making your own was the way to go, especially if I have the material.

$4 bucks from the Dr seems like a good way to go now however.

                Thanks
                Pat

I agree. That is what I used. Very satisified.
