Re: L72 Pad stamp thoughts
And, since I am the one who started this discussion with my comment, I would say that OPs request struck me as different from the ones I have seen before, (admittedly in my very limited experience).
He did not show the pad on HIS car's engine, nor did he apparently pull a photo out of an on-line (ie. eBay or other) ad of a car for sale. Or, if he did, he did not say so.
What he did was display three different pad stampings, and ask for opinions, with a comment that they were from cars he was looking at. And he blocked out a couple digits on each to "protect the privacy of the owners".
I am not saying that is the right way or the wrong way to use this resource. I am not the TDB police. But I have not seen this done before, and it is not how I went about looking for a car to buy. Before I bought a car, I took my own photo, and I sent it to Mr. Grenning, and paid for his opinion, which I felt was worth money.
Now, I could have just sent a PM letting OP know I was not sure the owners would want him to post their engine stamps on the WWW. Instead I just posted a comment, I thought repectfully written. No condemnation.
I apologize if offense was taken. This board IS for help on technical matters and that includes questions about engine numbers, and any other numbers. And help is given all the time, including from me (for what little it may be worth).
I encourage OP to post a clear image of a pad fully displayed if approved by the actual owner, and ask for opinions. He will probably get more opinions than he knows what to do with. He might even get one from me, that he can put with a $1.85 and buy a cup of coffee.
