Guys, I am still working on my '56. The wiper motor has been installed except for the screw going through the motor bracket into the firewall which I have seemed to have misplaced. I am posting a picture of a wiper motor with this bracket with an arrow pointing to the hole where the fastener goes. Can anyone enlighten me as to the correct fastener? I have looked through the reference material I have including the judging manual and cannot find what it is supposed to be. A picture would be really great too. I understand this bracket is used on '56 models but not in '57. I seem to recall seeing this bracket on other C-1 year models. Does anyone know what years this bracket was used for? I thank you in advance. Brooks Glover

Re: Correct Screw for Windshield Wiper Motor Bracket
Hey Guys, surely there is someone out there with a 1956 who can post either a picture or give answer of some sort to my question. "Car 54" where are you? This is one of those minute details that are not covered in the JG but could get you a deduct on the judging field. I appreciate whatever you can tell me. I am also interested in knowing what years that bracket was used on wiper motors. Thanks in advance! Brooks Glover (2141)- Top

Re: Correct Screw for Windshield Wiper Motor Bracket
Hi Brooks,
My 57 has one of the Philips head electrical wiring 'J' clip screws. The hole is in the firewall fiberglass, so that makes sense. There may be a 'J' clip and some wires attached also, but I can't swear to that. My car had a passenger car motor on it when I bought it, so all bets are off as to originality. Someone with a Bowtie or near so should be able to tell you for sure.
I am also interested in the application of the bracket. My 57 does have it, and it makes sense as it supports the cantilevered motor end, and the motor is the same for 56 and 57.
I noticed in your pic the wire is in bad shape. If you have not already done so, you should replace it. It is available aftermarket, but it is a little tricky to reassemble after you pull the motor case off. You lose the brushes in doing so. You can easily make a wire clip to hold them in place when re-assembling. The ST12 manual covers this very well, as well as rebuilding the complete motor.
I was going to answer this yesterday, but I thought someone with a more original 57 would chime in.
Good Luck, keep us posted. -Dan-- Top

Re: Correct Screw for Windshield Wiper Motor Bracket
Dan, Jerry and John, I thank you for your replies to my post on the correct screw for the windshield wiper motor bracket for a 1956. I spoke to a friend a couple of days ago who looked on his '57 to find no bracket but a wire clip as Dan described on his car. At one time I had a 1960 model and I seem to remember a bracket like that being on that car. BTW, the motor in the picture is not the correct motor for my car but one I have had for many years. I purchased a correct motor last year which included the bracket and it is now on my car. I have some screws that look like the one that John pictured and will probably use one of them to button up the wiper motor bracket. I am still curious what years that bracket is used. Does anyone know? Thanks again and I wish all of you the best on your restorations.
