57 NCRS judging questions for the newbie!

Hi Folks, here are a few mysteries for me, maybe you can clear them up

    1) Cigarette lighter, I have seen two types that meet the specs in the new judging manual but one, has the heating element flush with the case, another style the heating element protrudes from the case by maybe 1/8 of an inch. One right? both right? both wrong??

    2) Middle exhaust hangers, the hardware, meaning nuts and bolts are blackened or painted I am sure but what about the carriage bolt that is used there?? What is the finish, zinc, cad, paint, blackened?

    3) I can't make sense of the description in the judging manual regarding the finish on the carriage bolts and the hinge that are used for the fresh air cowl vent. It seems to me that both hinges and the 4 small carriage bolts would be the color of the car. The manual refers to the forward carriage bolts being CAD but the rear ones being car color????? Help.

    Enough for now and thanks!!

regarding the cowl vent, the manual also says in the "Finish Chart" that the brackets under the dash are semi-gloss black with body overspray...very confused indeed.

    4) how about the engine mounting bolts, I am assuming these are blackened but some folks say they were CAD instead?

      5) the wing nut that holds down the air cleaner on a 2x4 carter in the manual is pictured with what appears to be one hole in one wing? If a otherwise proper wingnut does not have a hole is it incorrect??

Hi Ken, as for Cigarette lighter it has the heating element flush with the case, also has chrome tapered ring inbetween knob & element

        2) Middle exhaust hangers, the hardware, meaning nuts and bolts are natural & black overspray painted[cad plate would probably ok(better) too] with some possiable perserative oiled as well. The carriage bolt that is used there is cad or natural steel with occational overspray of black paint.

        3) regarding the finish on the carriage bolts and the hinge that are used for the fresh air cowl only the bolts closet to cowl assy. would have overspray on them when it was painted on floorboard during painting operations before trim line operations?

Most of the original exhaust hardware I had seen years ago like on pass cars were a pile of rust & had to be cut off as they were natural steel with little paint there till it burnt off ,etc...Hope this helps........
