95 top hatch won't release

Well I took off the hardtop from the 95 and when I tried to raise the top hatch to get the soft top out all it would do is buzz . I'm asuming that it uses a solnoid somehow thats what I hear humming when I push the release button . Has anyone else run into this and how do I get it open to work on it ? Neither release button will open it .

Stan, a couple times I had something similar happen on my 96. With the car on I tried to close the deck and only one side closed. After I went and pushed down the other side it would not open again later when I pushed the release button. I had to turn the car off, let it sit for a while, then re-start it and it would open again, almost like I "rebooted" something.

It's only happened 3-4 times at the most in 15 years, and I heard no humming noise. Hopefully someone like Tom Hendricks will tell us what's going on and how to correct it.

Hey stan, If I remember right, there are manual release handles on each side of the convertible top deck. They are in the side panels near the seat belt anchors. I believe you move them up and back to manually release the deck. I don't have a C4 convertible on the floor today, but I think there was a spot in the owner's manual that describes the manual opening procedure. Then we can figure out what is going on. I assume the button on the keyless remote didn't open the deck either ???

Stan, I also need to ask.............. Is the battery OK in the car ?

Tom your a genius ! There are never any dumb questions with me !

I never suspected the battery because I had just put in a brand new Delco battery in Jan. because the old one would'nt hold a charge . I went out and tried to start it and it was totaly dead , put a charger on it and guess what the hatch popped up . I guess now I need to find out why the battery keeps going dead .

They will drain over the winter. We keep all of our cars in the showroom on tenders. Put a battery tender on it and you won't have those issues again.

Glad your problem was an easy one to diagnose. Been there a million times !! The buzz was the key. You were getting power, just not enough !!

I have a tender for it but I had just driven it two weeks ago and in two weeks it was completly dead . There is something draining it down and I'll just have to trace it down . It just started doing this this winter .

I give you too much credit I would have figured out what the problem was when I tried to start it .

Tom, you have been alot of help with the C-4 and I appreciate your willingness to help even when I have been too dumb to understand the owners manual . I think my problem with the battery drain has something to do with the PKE system you helped me with . I turned it off when I talked with you on the phone last winter and I think thats when the batt
started going down so I've turned it back on . It was doing some wierd things when I turned it off .
